My name is Greg Roberts. I am new to the home inspection business. I am not new, however, to the construction industry. I have over 20 years experience in  both residential and commercial settings. I am currently working as a field superintendant with a General Contractor in the McKinney area. I work daily with City inspectors and have to insure the quality of the work being performed by every subcontractor. I have been a part of every facet of the building process from the beginning design stage to the final walkthrough.

You will encounter many inspectors in your search to find the one you will be comfortable with doing an inspection for you. You will also find many different thoughts and theories as to why you should or should not choose a certain inspection company. Some will tell you to find an experienced firm with numerous inspections to their credit and to avoid anyone new and seemingly inexperienced. Some will caution you to avoid any inspector willing to perform an inspection at reduced rates. And some will try and lead you to believe that an inspector whose educational and training background includes online courses is unqualified.

Now some facts. Experience comes from many different sources. Every home inspection done for a buyer or seller must include the same items as specified by the Standards of Practice by The Texas Real Estate Commission. There are penalties for inspectors who do not perform up to these Standards. Inspectors have three levels of expertise. There are apprentices, real estate inspectors, and professional inspectors. Many large inspection companies have numerous  newer inspectors. Price is always something high on your list when searching for professional services. Inspectors should give professional service no matter the price. The old addage that you get what you pay for holds true some of the time. I personally find nothing wrong with giving the same or higher quality work at a reduced price. Education requirements for a licensed professional inspector in Texas are the same for everyone. There are those who would like you to believe that an online course is easier and teaches less. These are the same people who forget to tell you that each inspector, no matter how educated, must pass an identical exam before obtaining a license by The State of Texas.

I want you to know that I have both the practical and educational qualifications and am licensed as a Professional Real Estate Inspector for the State of Texas. My license number is #9103 and can be verified here.  http://www.trec.state.tx.us/newsandpublic/licenseeLookup/
